Life happens. The DREAMer Emergency Retention Fund is an emergency stipend for 海角社区 students who are dealing with unanticipated catastrophic life events that might cause the student to stop or pause their educational goals. Funding is limited each semester, and applications will be reviewed as funds last. Once funds are exhausted, additional applications will not be reviewed.听 All decisions are final.听
Awards are capped at $1,000. The 海角社区 Student Emergency Fund may affect future financial aid award packages for students and may be considered taxable income.听
DREAMer Emergency Fund awards听may be prioritized for students who have not previously had the opportunity to receive funding. 听
Students may be referred to case management to explore alternative financial resources in lieu of or prior to being considered for Emergency Funds.听
We prioritize financial emergencies that threaten basic needs (for example: housing, utilities, etc).听 听
Expenses covered include, but are not limited to:听
- Rent and utilities, in case of emergency听
- Can cover costs related to one鈥檚 immigration case or court hearing听
- Costs related to immigration attorneys听
- DACA renewals听
- Care for dependents听
- Personal medical, dental, or mental health emergencies (on a case-by-case basis)听
- Safety and health-related needs听
- Tuition (excluding fees)听
Expenses not covered include:听
- University Fees听
- Legal fees (unrelated to immigration status)听
- Car payments & non-essential transportation expenses (as determined by the Student Emergency Retention Fund Committee)听
- Outstanding personal debt, including car loan payments, credit card debt, medical debt or unpaid medical bills, or other bills that have been sent to collections听
- Student travel/conference听
- Non-essential utilities (determined by Student Emergency Retention Fund Committee)听
- Costs of entertainment, recreation, personal, or non-emergency travel expenses听
- Outstanding personal debt, including credit card debt听

o听听听Speak with staff in the SCC to discuss their need; 海角社区’s Immigrant Services Program may also be a useful resource
o听 听Students must have DACA, Undocumented, or TPS Status听
