From a campus phone, dial 911 for Auraria Police. This includes landline phones located in offices, classrooms and lounges. 听

Text-a-Tip:鈥�720-593-TIPS (8477). This is a way to discreetly report suspicious activity to Auraria Police. Text-a-Tip is also a way for those with hearing or speech loss to reach the ACPD by phone. Photos may be included with text messages.听

Here are a few simple steps to be prepared for an emergency on campus:

1. Sign up for emergency notifications and follow all instructions immediately

There are several means of communication used to notify the entire campus community of an imminent or in-progress emergency. These include an Emergency Notification System (ENS), broadcast messages via campus phones, University email and alerts on the 海角社区 homepage

Students, faculty and staff will also be notified by the about campus crimes that are not emergencies but fall within the parameters of a Campus Safety Report/Police Report, in compliance with the 鈥淭imely Notice鈥� provisions of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.

The ENS will send immediate notification text messages and emails when there is imminent danger, such as an active shooter on campus, a fire or a tornado. This also includes campus closure due to inclement weather, including snowstorms.听

• Emergencies can range from severe weather, fire, suspicious objects and people to a bomb threat or active shooter. It is crucial for you to get familiar听with not only the听Auraria Campus Emergency Procedures, but also your department’s emergency procedures in the case an emergency should occur.
• Download the Departmental Emergency Procedures Plan Template. This document helps 海角社区 departments to develop a solid plan of action for shelter, evacuations, rally points, and emergency contact lists in crisis situations.
• The Department of Facilities is responsible for emergency preparedness and procedures templates. If you would like assistance with developing your Departmental Emergency Procedures Plan, please feel free to contact facilities at 303-615-1699 of [email protected].

During a fire alarm, follow these steps:听

• If you are ever unsure if a听fire听alarm is a drill or a real event, always evacuate the building. Check your mobile device. Real events will be accompanied by an Emergency Notification.

• Never ignore a听fire听alarm and know at least two ways to exit the building.
• Leave all non-essential belongings.
• Follow laboratory specific safety protocols and secure hazardous or dangerous materials or equipment.
• If a听fire听alarm sounds, immediately proceed to the nearest exit in a safe and orderly manner (do not run). Avoid using elevators.
• After exiting, proceed to the designated evacuation rally points or move to a safe location 300 feet away.

• Conduct an accountability roll call for all students, faculty, and staff within your classroom, lab, or office space.
• Remain at the evacuation rally points. Do not re-enter the building until directed by emergency personnel.
• For individuals with disabilities and access and functional needs, please support and use the buddy system. Gather at designated location and notify ACPD (303-556-5000) of your location.

海角社区鈥檚 Emergency Notification System (ENS),听a system provided by RAVE Mobile Safety, is a communications tool that plays a critical role in keeping people safe before, during and after any emergency on campus.

As a student, faculty or staff member, you will contacted in a campus emergency via email and text message (if you have provided a mobile device number) through 海角社区’s ENS.

All of the institutions on the Auraria Campus are part of this system, which will also alert you if there is a campus closure due to inclement weather.

Along with the ENS, 海角社区 follows the Auraria Higher Education Center campus emergency preparedness procedures, policies and standards.
Auraria鈥檚 telephone notification system is also used in emergencies, sending a broadcast message to all campus phones.

After the ENS system has been activated, the 海角社区 Marketing and Communications office will implement the following procedures:

1. Information about the 鈥淓MERGENCY ALERT IN PROGRESS鈥� will be displayed on the 海角社区 homepage听 as a virtual notification.
2. Virtual audiences will be alerted through Facebook and Twitter accounts.
3. Faculty, staff and students will receive an urgent email message to their msudenver.edu addresses.

In addition, faculty and staff are asked to assist with emergency notification through verbal announcements in their classrooms and labs.

Once the alert has been lifted by the proper authorities, the 鈥淓MERGENCY ALERT IN PROGRESS鈥� information will be removed from the University homepage.
