This major is for students who are interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the field of Mariachi Performance and Culture through the Individualized Degree Program. With a combination of coursework from multiple departments including Music, Chicano/a Studies , and Spanish, the degree provides students with a solid foundation in this interdisciplinary field.

Music Theory

If you would like to take an exam so that you do not need to take MUS 1010: Essential Music Theory, visit the Music Theory Placement Exam website. MUS 1010 is required for MUS 1110/1120: Music Theory 1 and Lab.

1. Skip step 1 (you do NOT need to see a Music Advisor first).
2. See step 2 for information on what is covered in the exam.
3. See step 3 to register for the placement exam.

AP Music Theory exam (score 3-5) places you directly into MUS 1110/1120: Music Theory 1 and Lab.
