9/11 Day of Service

September 11 has been transformed into the nation鈥檚 largest day of service, known as 9/11 Day, and is officially recognized under federal law.听

Each year, over 30 million Americans and others take part by dedicating time on 9/11 to help those in need, honoring the spirit of unity and compassion that united the country in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.听

MLK Day of Service

The Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service was established to honor Dr. King’s legacy by encouraging Americans to engage in community service. Although MLK Day became a federal holiday in 1983, it wasn’t until 1994 that Congress designated it as a National Day of Service through the King Holiday and Service Act. The goal is to make it “a day on, not a day off,” inspiring people to serve others and address social challenges in their communities. Projects include food drives, tutoring, environmental cleanups, and more, all aimed at building what Dr. King called the 鈥淏eloved Community.鈥� The day promotes unity, equity, and civic responsibility. Today, it remains a powerful call to action, motivating millions to make a positive impact.

Cesar Chavez Day of Service

C茅sar Ch谩vez Day of Service is a U.S. holiday that honors the legacy of civil rights and labor leader C茅sar Ch谩vez. It is observed on or around March 31, his birthday, and encourages people to engage in volunteer work and community service. The day celebrates Ch谩vez鈥檚 commitment to nonviolence, social justice, and improving conditions for farm workers and underserved communities.
