Social work is about turning your care for people into action. In º£½ÇÉçÇø’s online Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW), you learn how to support individuals, families and communities while addressing issues like housing instability, mental health challenges and systemic inequities. You build generalist skills that transfer across many settings so you can grow a career that follows your values.
Colorado and many other states need more behavioral health and human service professionals, especially in rural and underserved communities. Our CSWE accredited BSSW program combines online coursework with supervised field education in agencies where you live, so you can stay rooted in your community while you study.
º£½ÇÉçÇø social work faculty bring decades of direct practice into your online classroom, from child welfare and school based mental health to aging, medical social work and community advocacy. Many continue to work in the field or partner closely with local agencies, so the cases and examples you discuss reflect real situations social workers face every day.
For example, Professor Christian Itin has more than 30 years of experience as a senior counselor, clinical program director and substance abuse and mental health intervention specialist. He helped develop º£½ÇÉçÇø’s online BSSW and MSW programs and is known for his work in experiential and adventure based education, giving students concrete tools for building trust, leading groups and creating change with clients in real world settings.
In the online Social Work B.S. program at º£½ÇÉçÇø, you learn how to work with people in the context of their families, communities and systems. Courses help you connect human behavior, social welfare policy and research informed practice so you can respond to issues like housing insecurity, trauma, health disparities and discrimination with practical tools and a clear ethical framework.
Your coursework prepares you for generalist practice across many settings. You will explore human behavior in the social environment, social welfare policy and services, generalist practice with individuals, families and groups, work with diverse communities and research for social work practice. You also complete field education, where you apply what you learn in a supervised placement in your community.
Assignments and field experiences are designed to help you build skills you can use right away in human service and behavioral health roles.
These experiences prepare you for entry level social and human service positions and give you a strong foundation if you decide to pursue an MSW, including pathways at º£½ÇÉçÇø that focus on expanding the behavioral health workforce in Colorado.
The skills you learn in social work are valuable in many human service and behavioral health roles. Here are a few examples of annual mean salaries for related professions in Colorado.

Yes, you can complete your entire Bachelor of Science in Social Work fully online from wherever you live. Our CSWE‑accredited BSSW program meets the highest national professional standards, giving you a premium, career‑ready education. And by declaring the major fully online, you may automatically qualify for up to $1,000 per semester in dedicated online‑student scholarships.
Once you finish your prerequisite courses and are formally admitted to the social work major, the upper‑division curriculum follows a clear, structured sequence. Full‑time students can complete the major in about two years, while part‑time students can spread their core classes across three years to keep things balanced. And your online success coach and social work advisor will work with you throughout the process to maintain a steady, sustainable graduation pace.
We’re extremely transfer‑friendly and make sure you get full credit for the academic milestones you’ve already completed. We can quickly see how your past general education, psychology, and sociology courses line up with our curriculum. And because social work requires specific foundational prerequisites, like human biology, American government, and introductory social work, our transfer advisors will work with you one‑on‑one to maximize your hours so you can apply to the major on time.
Earning your CSWE‑accredited BSSW prepares you for immediate, high‑impact generalist social work practice across a wide range of community settings. Graduates launch meaningful careers in child welfare agencies, school districts, healthcare networks, mental health clinics, and crisis‑intervention centers. And because a BSSW qualifies you for Advanced Standing, you can complete an MSW in just one additional year.
To ensure you graduate fully career‑ready, the program builds hands‑on field experience directly into your upper‑division coursework. You’ll complete about 45 hours of community volunteer service in your junior year, followed by a senior field placement requiring 16 hours a week for a total of 400+ hours. And our Office of Social Work Internships will help you secure a supervised placement at an approved human‑services agency in your own community, so you never have to travel to campus.
