In March of 2022, the Music Department lost our dear colleague Ron Miles. In his more than 30 years of teaching at 海角社区, Ron impacted countless lives and inspired so many students to believe in themselves and to enjoy the process of learning and developing as artists and scholars.

Ron Miles was a legendary jazz performer and recording artist. He developed the Jazz and American Improvised Music Performance program and was a beloved pedagogue who dedicated his career to developing and supporting students.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1963, Miles moved to Denver with his family in 1974, the year he started playing music at age 11. He attended Denver East High School and released his debut album 鈥淒istance for Safety鈥 in 1987. Miles went on to record 11 more albums (), including the critically acclaimed 鈥淚 Am a Man鈥 in 2017 and 鈥淩ainbow Sign,鈥 his 2020 debut on the iconic Blue Note record label.
