Yuja is the current º£½ÇÉçÇø video content management system which enables users to view, record, upload, publish, search, and share videos directly from Canvas.

Adding captions to your video makes your content available to a larger audience, such as for students who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, who speak different languages, whose headphones are not working, and more. Captions and transcripts build inclusive education for all our students.

Remember that all captions must be reviewed and edited for accuracy to be accessible. Auto-generated captions frequently contain errors, especially when the video contains technical language, names, or if the speaker has a non-American accent.

Generating captions on Yuja

1. Captions should be automatically created on a video within 24 hours after uploading. If captions are still not available, you can add them manually.
2. Find the video in Yuja, hover the mouse over the video,Ìýselect ³Ù³ó±ðÌýMore button.
3. Once you select the more you can look at the general area to see if the video has been captioned or in the process of captioning under Caption Status (see screenshot below).
   
4. If caption status is not pending or success you can request captions. Select the AccessibilityÌýon the left and then select Auto-caption.
5. Select the Caption Language of the video and selectÌýSend Caption Request.Ìý
6. Captions will be added to the video within 24 hours

Editing captions on Yuja

The Video Editor offers a full-featured caption editor that includes the ability to add, change, delete captions, or alter the timestamp associated with a caption.

1. Hover over the video you want to edit and selectÌýEditÌýto open the Video Editor.
   
2. In the side panel, clickÌýCaptionÌýto pull up all the closed captions.
3. Edit the caption based on your needs. The available actions include:
   • Update the closed-captions timestamps:ÌýEnter the new start and end times for each caption.
   • Edit the closed-caption texts:ÌýChange the caption text in the caption text box.
   • Delete a closed-caption line:ÌýClick ³Ù³ó±ðÌýTrashÌýicon next to the designated caption.
   • Add a new closed-caption line:ÌýClickÌýAdd CaptionÌýat mm:ss (i.e. 00:01)Ìýand add a new caption.

Creating and editing an .SRT caption file in Yuja

The following steps explain how to edit the .SRT caption file of a video that has been uploaded to Yuja making the captioning accurate and the video accessible. .SRT files are the standard caption files and can be uploaded to other platforms.

      • If your videos are in folders,ÌýopenÌýthe desired folder and then follow the steps from above.
   4. ClickÌýAccessibilityÌý(second from the bottom in the right-hand list)
      • There will be a table with three columns and two rows. Captions are in the second row (underÌýTypeÌýit should sayÌýSRT Caption File)
   5. ClickÌý³Ù³ó±ðÌýDownload ButtonÌý(arrow pointing down in the captions row underÌýActions).
      • Note: The first time you download captions, it will ask you what program to use.
        • ClickÌýMore AppsÌýandÌýselectÌýNotepad
   6. AÌýNotepadÌýfile will open.ÌýThis is where you can edit the captions.
      • Note: Do not edit the time stamps.
      • To make your captions as accurate as possible, be sure to have the video playing so you can check your work as you go.
   7. SaveÌýyourÌýNotepadÌýfile when you are finished.
      • If you have multiple caption files, be sure to rename your files before sharing.

       • You will not be able to upload a file until you select a language
