Progress Over Perfection

What does Progress Over Perfection mean for accessibility with faculty? Faculty should maintain steady work on improving course accessibility for both digital course presence and the in-class experience, because every improvement is a win!

How can Faculty continue accessibility work with busy schedules?

  • Use the Canvas Accessibility Checker on all module pages for the upcoming week. Correct any access barriers such as missing or unformatted headings or missing alt-text.
  • Pair your expert knowledge with generative AI to develop image descriptions.
  • Advocate to leadership with your department and chair for PDF Remediation service for faculty and staff.
  • Block off time to work on accessibility, such as by scheduling a MegaByte Working Session with colleagues. Have an IAG member present in the room for immediate help while you work.

Remember, every single access barrier that you corrected improves your course accessibility and creates a more inclusive learning environment.

Going Further

  • Consider if any course elements rely on sensory characteristics (such as visual identification from a map, listening assignments, visual diagrams, etc.) and research what work is being done to create equitable accessible alternatives.
  • Attend our 30-minute Accessibility Bytes trainings. Suggest a topic for future semesters.
  • The IAG is actively recruiting PALs for Fall 2026! Work on an accessibility project and share your results with your colleagues. Stipends paid upon receipt of project.
  • Request an Access Check for part of a course or specific materials. The IAG has checked elements such as one week in Canvas, an external website, OER resources, and more.
  • Schedule the IAG for a department visit to share who we are and what we do.back to top
