Design Services

The Advanced Manufacturing Sciences Institute (AMSI) provides expert design services focusing on CAD Design, Prototype Development, Design Validation, and Reverse Engineering to help transform your product ideas into reality. AMSI’s state-of-the-art laboratory capabilities support your product development from initial concept to full-scale production.

AMSI expertise

AMSI staff and student teams bring a unique combination of perspectives and skills to the design consulting process. Our experienced industry professionals, innovative educators, and students are trained in the latest processes, tools, and techniques. Our experts can guide you through design, testing, and production with a focus on efficiency, cost effectiveness, and innovation. Our unique blend of consulting expertise and hands-on manufacturing capability makes us a trusted partner for entrepreneurs and companies looking to thrive in an increasingly competitive manufacturing landscape.

CAD Design

For your design needs, we primarily use industry-standard CAD software platforms such as SolidWorks and Autodesk Fusion. We can create new files or edit existing ones to support future design modifications or manufacturing processes.

Prototype Development

We utilize a variety of resources and equipment to help you create a prototype of your product. Whether starting from your design or collaborating with you to develop the concept, we can assist in bringing your idea to fruition. From physical builds to digital models, we support every stage of prototype development.

Design Validation

Our engineering and manufacturing capabilities allow us to evaluate designs for performance, manufacturability, and overall functionality. We can test usability and physical characteristics while helping determine the best materials and applications to ensure the design performs as intended.

Reverse Engineering

We use 3D scanning technology and various dimensional inspection methods to analyze and deconstruct existing physical parts, designs, or assemblies. This allows us to understand their structure and functionality so they can be replicated, improved, or properly documented for future manufacturing.
