Symposium Format and Design

The Research Symposium is designed to showcase the breadth and depth of research activities happening on our campus.ÌýThis annual event connects º£½ÇÉçÇø faculty researchers with each other and with aspiring undergraduate and graduate researchers.ÌýÌý

The format of the symposium has been intentionally designed to spark curiosity, connect researchers, and showcase the breadth of scholarship at º£½ÇÉçÇø within a concise, half-day event.

Unlike a disciplinary academic conference, this event brings together a general audience of faculty, staff, students, and community members.

The purposefully short, 7-minute lightning talks encourage presenters to distill their work to its mostÌýessential and engaging elements, focusing on the big ideas and real-world relevance.

The cross-disciplinary format is designed toÌýhighlight a wide range of researchÌýin a short amount of time and keep the audience energized and curious. In each session, attendees are exposed to a balance of disciplines, topics, and forms of research.

The event is structured toÌýencourage conversation over comprehensiveness, presenting a breadth of research in rapid succession, with further conversation occurring during the breaks and lunch.

Criteria for Selecting Presenters

Successful applications will include a strong research project that includes recent data and/or findings that have not been previously presented at this event.

Proposals distill the work to its most essential and engaging elements, focusing on the big ideas and real-world relevance and should clearly indicate how their scholarship relates to a general audience of faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Priority is given to new and innovative projects as one of the goals of the symposium is to showcase the diversity of research across campus.
