Springing into March with Connections

We’re gearing up for spring even if the calendar says it’s not quite here yet! We have a lot to talk about this month, from how to incorporate 1Book into your course to how instructional media can enhance your course. Instructional Accessibility reminds us to keep progress in mind over perfection, and join us in the Executive Director’s corner for a discussion about the work of teaching. Read on below for more details.

Executive Director's Corner

What is the Work of Teaching?

With 66% of º£½ÇÉçÇø students taking at least one online course, a pressing question emerges: how much work is teaching—and what are we really being paid to do? In this piece I touch on workload math and then argue that the true value of faculty isn’t content creation or delivery, but connection, feedback, and care. In an AI-disrupted era, that human focus may be our sharpest institutional edge.

Instructional Media Design Showcase FA25

Discover how CTLD’s Instructional Media team helped faculty elevate online learning through high‑quality multimedia across disciplines. This showcase highlights fall 2025 examples from immersive culinary demonstrations in Cannabis in the Kitchen to dynamic economic reasoning in Global Economic History and a rich, multi‑video Introduction to Business course. See how thoughtful media design supports clarity, engagement, and real‑world connections for students.

Adopt 1Book in Your Course

This year’s 1Book selection, We Will Be Jaguars, explores resilience, Indigenous leadership, and environmental justice. This common reading program builds campus community through a shared text and dialogue. When faculty adopt the book in their classes, their students receive free copies, and a Teaching & Learning Guide provides ideas and support for classroom integration. The authors will visit campus April 14–15.
