SAP Appeal InformationWhat is Academic Suspension Standing?
Academic Suspension standing is the third tier of . This academic standing is applied after a student鈥檚 third-consecutive and most recent semester with an overall GPA below a 2.00 and who did not meet the minimum semester GPA requirement of a 2.20 during their most recent semester on Academic Recovery standing.
Academic Suspension Standing Expectations:
Students on Academic Suspension standing will not be eligible to registering for classes at 海角社区 for three-consecutive semesters from the date of suspension (end of term).
All students returning to 海角社区 after their three-consecutive semester suspension hiatus, they must reapply and will be re-admitted on Academic Recovery standing with the university. For these students, all Academic Recovery standing guidelines will apply.
For students that plan to attend for semesters during their suspension hiatus, they must go through the appeals process (see below).

Academic Suspension Appeal for Academic Standing
Students on Academic Suspension standing who intend to continue taking classes during the next semester must first submit an appeal of their academic standing by the prescribed semester due date.
Students who do not submit an appeal by the due date (see below) who have registered for the anticipated semester will be dropped from their courses.
Academic Suspension Appeal for Academic Standing Expectations
Students that follow these guidelines are more likely to have their appeal approved:
- Fully answer each question. Treat these questions like an essay (at least one paragraph per question).
- It is your responsibility to provide complete responses for the committee to approve your appeal.
Explain the reasons for your academic decline:
- Include details from all the semesters affecting your overall GPA.
- Identify all specific incidents and/or causes for your academic decline. Focus on relevant details.
- Show honesty, self-reflection, and understanding of what role you played in the situation.
Explain your plan of action for the future:
- List steps have you taken to address the reasons for your academic decline. How have the issues you were experiencing been resolved?
- Explain the steps and responsibility you are currently taking to help fulfill the terms of the Academic Recovery guidelines.
- Include the academic goals you intend to聽 achieve at the 海角社区.
Add documentation within the form:
- This is essential to the success of your appeal if you dealt with medical issues, received mental health counseling, had a death in the family, or loss of employment

Next Steps for Registration:
If your appeal is approved and you plan to register or make changes to your class schedule for the next semester attended, you will need to:
- Schedule an advising appointment & meet with Kimberly Williams, Associate Director of Advising Systems/Intervention Services (email [email protected] with an appointment request after you have received your appeal decision).
Next Steps to Take During Your Suspension Hiatus:
If your appeal is denied, you will take the three-semester hiatus away from 海角社区 to continue to stabilize your learning environment.
Once your have finished your suspension hiatus, you will need to reapply to 海角社区 and be readmitted under Academic Recovery standing.
Recommended Actions to Take:
- If you have general studies requirements that would not be met through retaking the course and using the at 海角社区, we recommend and registering for those classes.
- We also recommend completing the Administrative Withdrawal process, if you dealt with extenuating circumstances that prevented you from withdrawing from the course(s).
- Once you have returned to 海角社区, we recommend discussing the with one of our advising professionals, as an option for improving your overall GPA.
- Take the time to stabilize your learning environment (whether it is your personal, financial, and physical/mental health) and return stronger and ready to complete your degree at 海角社区.
