Pro-Tip: Connecting with an Academic Advisor
Don’t see appointment availability in Navigate360 student? 聽Check College and School advising pages to see if any drop-in hours are posted and for additional information about connecting with an advisor in your program. Send your advisor or the advising office for your program an email. There may also be an option in Navigate Student to request an appointment! Advisors work as quickly as possible to get back to students. Here are some tips for connecting with an academic advisor:
- Visit your College or School’s advising page. Some areas post drop-in hours or info about advisor’s schedules on their page.
- to learn which College or School your program is in and find more contact information.
- Double check an academic advisor鈥檚 drop-in advising availability and whether they are working from campus or are remote before coming to campus.聽
- Always message an advisor from your msudenver.edu email account.
- Include your student ID number in your message. (It may start with 900 or 901).
- If it’s been several days and you haven’t heard back, consider sending a follow-up message. You could also look in Navigate Student again to see if any times have opened up.
- You may need to contact your academic department directly for faculty advisor availability.
- Graduate students should check directly with their program.聽
- If you aren’t sure where to start, you may email [email protected] for guidance on how to connect with the advising team that best meets your needs.
What is Academic Advising?
At 海角社区 you have access to both professional academic advisors and faculty advisors to help you navigate the University. (Faculty are the professors and instructors who teach your classes. Some of them advise, too.) Advisors are here for you if you:
- Need help deciding a major, minor, or concentration.
- Want to learn how transfer credit fits into your degree plan and goals.
- Are looking for referrals to other offices but don’t know where to start.
- Need help choosing classes for your next semester.
- Are exploring careers.
If you’re unsure of which major best fits you, that’s Ok. We have a team of Exploratory Advisors just for you!聽 Exploratory/Undeclared students are those who have not yet decided on a college major. It is perfectly normal to not know what you want to study in college. You may not have all the information you need to choose a major. Maybe you just need more time to learn about your strengths, interests, and values.
Students may have more than one advisor during their time at 海角社区. Undergraduate students typically work with a professional academic advisor and then move to working with faculty advisors. Graduate students – check with your program for more advising information. 海角社区 students have an advising team to support them from their first day through graduation!
Meet with your advisor early – before it is time for you to register for classes. Check in with someone at least once a semester. Make sure you become聽familiar with Navigate Student, our online advising resource. You’ve got this!
Connect with an Advisor
Advising at 海角社区 happens in the academic department for your major, minor, or certificate. These programs at the University are grouped into Colleges and Schools. It’s OK if you’re not sure what College or School your program is housed in. Use the resources below to find your program. Then, visit your College or School’s advising information page to learn more about their resources. If you aren’t sure where to start, you may email [email protected] for guidance on how to connect with the advising team that best meets your needs.

- If you have general advising or program-related questions, please reach out to an advisor in your major, minor, or certificate program.

聽CACED Start of Fall Semester Office Hours
During the start of the fall semester, CACED advisors are offering some special office hours separate from their regular schedule. These sessions are designed to give you extra support, answer questions, and make sure you have everything in place.
Take advantage of this opportunity to connect with your advisor in person, by phone, or virtually. Whether you need guidance on registration, course planning, or just want to clarify next steps, our team is here to help you succeed from day one!

College of Business Advising Information
If you need advising support and are unable to make an appointment in Navigate360, please email your assigned academic advisor (if you are unable to get in touch with your assigned advisor, do not know your assigned advisor, or are a prospective student you may email the Advising Coordinator, Wendy Walker at聽[email protected]).
In your email, include your 海角社区 Student ID and a summary of what you would like assistance with (for example, I need an APLAN for Financial Aid; I need an override for this business class; or I need help selecting classes).聽聽Please email using your 海角社区 Student email account.
If you are on-campus, you can also swing by the College of Business Advising Center in AD 210.聽 Our drop-in hours are posted on the CBUS Advising Webpage.聽 Please keep in mind drop-ins are subject to the advisors鈥� availability and may be canceled with no notice. 聽Navigate360 appointments are the best way to guarantee support.
Please do not use Teams chat, call your Academic Advisor or the main College of Business phone line as this will delay our response to you.
New transfer students, freshman and sophomore students, readmits, and seniors nearing graduation should meet with a professional academic advisor.
Juniors and seniors should meet with faculty advisors in your major department to discuss major elective options, career goals, and internships.

College of Health and Human Sciences Advising Information
Advisors experience a high volume of requests related to class registration and schedule changes at the beginning of the term. To support as many students as possible,聽advisors will adjust their schedules August 10 to 24聽to prioritize drop-in hours and faster email responses.

If you want to talk with your advisor about planning out future semesters, long term planning, or in-depth discussions, please schedule an appointment after August 24.

College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Advising Information
Peak Registration begins on Monday, August 10 and goes through August 21. To view advisor availability during this time, please visit the Peak Registration webpage.聽
Beginning August 10, please review your advisor’s availability and advising formats, which may include in-person drop-ins, virtual appointments, and email advising. We are here to support you throughout the registration period. During Peak Registration (August 10鈥�21), advisors are available to assist with time-sensitive registration needs, including course changes, schedule adjustments, prerequisite questions, and time-conflict concerns. We encourage you to reach out early if you need assistance.

Exploratory Advising Information
Exploratory students are those that have not decided on a college major or are unsure of which major may be the best fit for them.
If you can鈥檛 find appointment availability for your advisor in Navigate Student, send them an email to determine options and next steps. Our office also offers drop-in advising during certain busy times of year.

A Non-Degree Seeking student is a student looking to take classes at 海角社区 without earning a degree here.聽聽This is not the same聽as being an Undeclared/Exploratory student.
If you are a non-degree student and a class you want to take has prerequisite requirements, you will need to schedule with the academic department that class is housed in to request a prerequisite override.

Track Your Degree Progress
The Degree Progress Report (DPR) helps you and your advisor track program requirements and how you are meeting them. It includes information about classes you have taken at 海角社区 and classes transferred in. You can also see the classes you are registered for. A DPR doesn’t tell you what order to take the classes in, but advisors can help you plan!
Review your DPR before you meet with an advisor and prepare questions to ask during your appointment.

Something Important to Remember
Your DPR is not an official transcript, it is an advisory guide. Your DPR may not show all information until the Office of the Registrar finishes a final graduation check. If there are issues with your graduation application you will be notified.聽 If
- your major, minor, concentration, schedule, or catalog year changes
- you repeat a course or earn below a minimum needed grade
information on your DPR may change. If that sounds overwhelming,聽 remember an advisor can help you better understand what you see on your DPR.

Welcome new Roadrunner! We are so glad you are here! The Office of Admissions has prepared checklists of next steps for you. (Graduate students should check in with their departments. Online students should check in with Online Learning.)
Checklists go over tasks from setting up student accounts to applying for financial aid and scholarships, and so much more.聽 Check your 海角社区 email often. It’s the official way for us to email you. You will be receiving a lot of important information there!
Meeting with an advisor is a task you should complete now that you have been admitted. Their schedules book up quickly, especially at the beginning and end of semesters. Don’t wait to reach out! If you attend a virtual or in-person orientation you will meet with advisors at an advising and registration session. The staff at orientation can help you connect with your department and help you make a plan to get started at 海角社区. If you complete an online orientation, please follow that up by scheduling an advising appointment.
